What was buried is about to return!
The last time Pippa stayed at her grandfather’s cottage near the forest, a strange figure appeared at her window. Hopefully that won’t happen this time.
The legends of spriggan folk and twig men were usually spooky stories told around the fire but it’s not long after they arrive that Pippa and her brother realise all is not what it seems. Their grandfather is petrified of something and orders them to never go into the woods.
Twig men appear in the house, causing much mayhem and alarm. Pippa is scared but she must find out who they are and what they want before something happens.
‘…if you go down to the woods today, you might not ever come back…’
In a fast-paced storyline, the reader is taken on a brilliant yet creepy journey to find out more about the magic and mystery behind the tapping on her window at night. It’s not just Pippa’s present the spriggan know about, they’re also well aware of her past and the connections she’s previously made to those that lie beneath the ground. Pippa needs all the courage she can muster to outwit the things that live in the wood. Not only to save herself but those she loves too.
Bewitching and heart-racing in equal measure, Rachel Burge’s first novel for younger readers is a truly spine-tingling story for every shelf. With a beautiful cover from Cathrin Peterslund, it’s definitely one to return to again and again.
