‘…the dolls’ glass eyes stared into space until Delores whispered, “You don’t fool me”. They blinked back in unison…’
Delores and Prudence arrive back to The Tollbooth Bookstore with one eye on the shadows and the other on the deserted shop floor.
An unseen change in the atmosphere confirms their suspicions that all is not quite right when they meet unwanted guest, Magoria Jepp. An investigator of paranormal occurrences, Magoria uses her powers to try to reach into Delores’ mind, determinedly searching for a glimpse of her gifts.
To stop her gaining that knowledge, and with the help of Prudence, Gabriel and all her friends, Delores won’t rest until she beats Magoria at her own game – the investigators powers are strong so every ounce of courage is needed if Delores is to prevail.
But at what cost? Can they break Magoria’s hold on them all? Will those who tread between the thin veil of reality and death return to cause even more mayhem?
With Bócains circling and spirited dolls making their presence known, Delores is in a race against time to return her beloved world back to her perceived normality, in all its forms.
A goose bump filled, creepy return to old Edinburgh and The Tollbooth Bookstore in ‘The Haunted Life of Delores Mackenzie awaits. Yvonne Banham has an ingenious knack of drawing you in to the narrative and then pulling the rug out from under your feet as you fall into step with Delores and live each moment alongside her. Nathan Collins’s illustrations depict the incredible cast of characters to perfection too. What a spectacular follow up to her debut ‘The Dark and Dangerous Gifts of Delores Mackenzie!
