Welcome to the world of dinosaurs!
‘A First Book of Dinosaurs’ includes thirty poems and is split into four sections; Meet the Dinosaurs, Eat or be Eaten, Dinosaur Families and The End, or Is It?
In the first we meet a selection of dinosaurs, from the Triceratops to the Therizinosaurus and for each we learn facts through easy-to-read verses filled with humour.
The second section introduces the reader to yet more dinosaurs, this time with information about what they eat and how. Did you know a Cedarosaurus doesn’t chew?
Dinosaur Families tells us which dinosaurs live in herds and includes creatures such as a Pterosaurs which are not really dinosaurs but are still fascinating to learn about.
Finally we wonder if after a giant asteroid strikes earth, all is lost for the dinosaurs but wait, what about chickens?
Could they be related to dinosaurs?
What a great way to learn about dinosaurs!
I love that the name of each one is written phonetically too, which makes reading this aloud much easier.
Including many invitations to imagine you have gone back in time to life in the age of dinosaurs, this book has an almost interactive feel to it.
The vibrant and often humorous illustrations by Matt Hunt match the text of this book perfectly.
For any young dinosaur fans, this is a superb introduction!
Fact-checked by a palaeontologist and the education team at the Natural History Museum, the book also features a timeline and information on geological periods.
