Letty and the Mystery of the Golden Thread by Penny Boxall, Illustrated by Anastasiia Ruposova

When twelve-year-old Lettice Breech learns she’s going on an exciting trip to Europe with her Pa, she can’t wait to venture to Paris, Rome, Greece and all the places she’s ever dreamed of visiting.

However, their plans are cut short when a famous statue of Athena her Pa excavated many years ago is exposed as a forgery, her beloved Pa is thrown in gaol for the crime.

Free to take over his place, her horrid somehow-related-but-very-questionable brother, Phineas Creed, decides to take Sir Joshua Breech’s place in 1770s society. With Breech arrested, Creed now has access to his home, riches and reputation in their world and he will stop at nothing to get what he really wants – the original Athena.

Subtle clues left in her Pa’s notebook encourage her to go and find the truth.
Crossing sea, land and air, she always has her trusty sidekick magpie, Diderot by her side. Her new friend Gio helps her navigate her way from one city to the next, always watching out for her. Together the intrepid trio reach their final destination and the final piece of the collector’s puzzle.
Creed’s henchman are on their trail and Letty must pull off the heist of a lifetime if she is ever to prove her dad is innocent.
