Gloam by Jack Mackay

Gwen is the only one in her family that doesn’t seem to like the new baby sitter, Esme.

Her tall looming figure radiates fear as she silently stalks around their home, a dilapidated house left to them by her Gran on an island that can cut them off from civilisation at a moment’s notice. Trying to convince her siblings that Esme isn’t quite as kind as her dad thinks she is, backfires and Gwen is running out of time to investigate and solve the sinister events that are taking place in her home.
Chaos reigns as they’re thrown into nightmares to face unwanted fears that seem to be Esme’s favourite past time when their dad isn’t around. Not only are the siblings emotionally bereft, they attempt to not fall under Esme’s control with little success.
Gwen fights against the submissive behaviour of the ever-changing being that has brought a darkness they can’t escape. Gwen uses unearthed magic and spells, left by her gran, to tackle the demon. However, Esme has other ideas for Gwen and her family, and nothing, and no-one, is safe. Each character has a part to play as sacrifices are made as they try to survive the wrath of the monster in their house.
A tremendously spooky tale by writer Jack Mackay has the reader checking the locks as they power through this absorbing and chilling story.
Superb illustrations by Ben Joel Price add to the creepy dynamics of each chapter with a spectacular cover.
