Beanie the Bansheenie by Eoin Colfer, illustrated by Steve McCarthy

Beanie the Bansheenie watched from her pod in the river as a little girl called Rose stepped near the waters edge. This was her person. The one she is meant to bond with and know everything about. Her job is to get to know her human but also watch for the CLOUD OF DOOM, which is a signal that Rose is about to die. It’s not a happy job but she is proud to be a bansheenie and wants to  grow up to be a fantastic banshee. When her pod gets knocked into the water, Beanie is stuck in her watery world and will need to wait until she hatches to howl her banshee howl at Rose. Only then will Rose see her.
Once Beanie was big enough to leave her pod, she watched over Rose, learning her ways and how she spends her day. When news of a storm spreads across the valley floor, Beanie has no option but to howl her best banshee howl if Rose is to see her. Beanie is desperate to warn Rose but for some reason her howl doesn’t work and Rose still doesn’t know Beanie exists.

Will Rose ever see Beanie? Will the flood wash away everything from the valley floor? Will Beanie become the bravest banshee that ever lived?

Based on an Irish myth, Eoin Colfer has brought to life the story of Beanie, a young bansheenie who’s howl doesn’t seem to work.

A beautiful tale of love, friendship and being happy with who you are in a world of difference.

Incredible illustrations by Steve McCarthy will have every reader reading this life-affirming story again and again.
