Two reviews! ‘The Moon Rabbit’ and ‘Wednesday is for Wiggling’ by Eva Wong Nava,
The Moon Rabbit by Eva Wong Nava, illustrated by Jason Chuang
A Celebration of the Mid-Autumn Festival.
It is a story Meifung never tires of hearing. The legend of the Chang’e, The Moon Goddess. Each Mid-Autumn Festival she asks her mother to tell her the story again.
The Moon Goddess is known as the rabbit in the moon but Chang’e’s story began on an earth that had ten suns in the sky. Married to Houyi, they lived in a world so hot nobody could go outside during the day.
Chang’e watched the moon, curious about the rabbit shaped shadow upon it and wishing she could live in the shade.
So strong was Houyi’s love for her, he took his magic bow and arrow and shot down nine of the suns, leaving only one.
As life flowered once more on earth, the Queen Mother of the West was so pleased she presented him with the gift of long life. Houyi knew he would never swallow the potion, as he didn’t want to live without Chang’e.
To his horror, Chang’e discovered the potion, and unable to resist the sweet smelling liquid, drank it all.
What happened afterwards and why the Mid-Autumn Festival is celebrated with mooncakes is all explained in this wonderful story by Eva Wong Nava.
A true fable, this is the perfect book to get lost in a tale of magical worlds. Will you too look at the moon and see the shadow of the rabbit?
The illustrations by Jason Chuang are stunning, The use of soft colours and inclusion of wonderful details from the natural world enhance this beautiful book.
Once read, never forgotten.
A super way to learn about the Mid-Autumn Festival!

It takes a village to raise a child.
Each day of the week, the little girl is busy. There is a routine to follow, and routine can be reassuring.
From moping on a Monday to wriggling on a Wednesday, every day is filled with activities, and most importantly, people.
A wonderful, joyful book to celebrate how important it is to spend time with the ones you love.
I love this spread in particular; there are so many possibilities!
A super book to start many discussions! From family, friendship, how to keep busy and how to enjoy every day.
Holly Sterling has conveyed the joy and energy in this book beautifully! Each page is guaranteed to make you smile.
