The Dinosaur Who Came To Dinner

by Rachael Davis and Mike Byrne

Joy, fun, happiness, celebration, cakes, ice-cream, bubbles and butterflies; ‘The Dinosaur Who Came To Dinner‘ by Rachael Davis and illustrated by Mike Byrne is a perfect recipe for fun and laughter.

On a very hot day, Mum and her little girl feel like they are melting when the doorbell rings, who could it be?

A thirsty dinosaur!

This very polite visitor requests a bath. Bubbles go everywhere but watch out for his tail and the shower rail.

Off on an adventure, the pair explore. They meet neighbours the little girl has never met before and discover a rooftop garden.

What can they do there, but dance with the butterflies, of course.

All this exercise makes a dinosaur hungry, but Mum has this covered with a fabulous feast.

Ever polite, our dino friend scoffs the lot until at the end off he trots.

I think the little girl and her Mum are not the only ones who hope this charming character will return.

This is an absolute joy to read aloud, it skips along with plenty of drama and fun. I’m sure it will have all listeners howling with laughter.

Full of energy and movement, this is a ‘feel good book’ if ever there was one. Rachel Davis has given us an absolute smorgasbord of tempting sensory sounds, tastes and smells.

This is one dinosaur I’m sure we would all love to invite in for dinner.

The illustrations by Mike Byrne are so full of life and fun, I think readers would love this dinosaur to come alive and share a cuddle. From the very first page, I couldn’t help smiling.

The characters shine through the drawings; we can immediately tell how bright and curious the little girl is and what a warm and engaging new friend she has made. Straight away we are drawn into wanting to be part of this wonderful, joyful story.

From the first page to the last, each illustration is full of fun, life and laughter.

Each time I read through this scrumptious chocolate box delight of a book, there is another detail in the pictures that I haven’t seen before.

A definite must for when some fun and laughter is needed!

This would be a great book to read to a class!
