Old Man of the Sea by Stella Elia and Weberson Santiago

I do adore picture book which celebrate that wonderful bond between children and their grandparents. A bond that is nurtured through fun, time and storytelling. Let me show you Old Man of the Sea, from Stella Elia and Weberson Santiago, which achieves just that.

Sometimes Grandpa tells stories, sometimes he doesn’t. But when he does they whisk the duo off in to lands of afar when Grandpa spent time on the sea. From Europe to Africa, to Asia and Oceania and taking in the vastness of the oceans in between Santiago’s map based illustrations are vibrant and fun.

Grandpa’s tone is wistful yet in awe of the sights he sees, and the beauty of the world around him.

“He filled his luggage with stories”

Full of colour, warmth and imagination, Old Man of the Sea is a joyful picture book to share.
