The Moonlight Mystery Agency by Vashti Hardy, illustrated by Agnes Saccani

Book One in a new series!

‘The Birthday Cake Thief’

Hana is desperate to have a cat as a pet but because her younger brother, Arlo, is allergic to them, she is not allowed. Cross with her brother, she storms off to her room.

Imagine her delight when Ace, a talking cat, appears at her window one night.

To add to her surprise, he asks her to become part of the Moonlight Mystery Agency and there is a mystery to solve!

Who has stolen Spark’s birthday cake? The poor bionic unicorn is so upset he wants to blame everyone. Is it the trolls who live under the bridge, the metal rabbit made of cogs or even the trees?

With Hana and Ace on the job will the mystery be solved and will this help Hana to realise it is not Arlo’s fault she can’t have a pet and perhaps she ought to say sorry to him.

A handy-sized book set out in six chapters, this is the first in the Barrington Stoke, Little Gems series of The Moonlight Detective Agency, and I am sure readers will finish this one wanting to read more.

A fun, imaginative, gentle mystery story with super characters.

Who wouldn’t love to meet a talking cat, a bionic unicorn and a metal rabbit made of cogs. To say nothing of the cute little green trolls and their cupcakes!

This is a great way to introduce understanding of why allergies may be one reason why not everyone can have pets at home.

The illustrations by Agnes Saccani, which are so bright, help to make this book such a cheery and happy story to read.

Clearly laid out, with plenty of space around the text, which is in an easy to read font, this is an absolute winner for readers of 5+ years.
