The Faber Book of Bedtime Stories – Guest Post by Pip Jones

I’m delighted to welcome the wonderful Pip Jones to the blog today as part of the Faber Book of Bedtime Stories tour.  It’s our turnWe’ll hear more about it from the author herself, and about the stories Pip loved as a child!

The Faber Book of Bedtime Stories is a beautiful collection of modern tales, all written by some of today’s most beloved children’s authors. Gorgeously illustrated by the talented Sarah McIntyre – who has had her work cut out for her bringing shape-shifting cats, octosharks, Scary Godmothers, and much more, to life – this book has wide appeal either as a read aloud or read alone, and is perfect for leisurely winter bedtimes.

So, assuming partying unicorns haven’t cancelled bedtime again, cosy up under the covers, and let yourselves be enchanted by an endearing goose who thinks she’s a chicken, a sweet-natured swamp monster, a worried granddaughter, and many more inspiring protagonists!

Tell us about your story
Bug loves tiny little creepers, crawlers, buzzers and flutterers. In fact, she knows every bug in her garden – and they love her too, because she looks after their every need. When Mr Crimp’s beautiful bakery needs saving from closure, Bug insists he should host a bake off competition for local kids, to remind everyone what a treasure the little shop is. But Bug’s ingredients get lost on the way. Who could possibly save the day? Scuttle… Flutter… Bzzzzzz….

What was your favourite bedtime story as a child?
I loved anthologies as a child. Choosing our favourites, remembering all the illustrations so you could flick to your perfect pages. We had a classic, which included the Pied Piper of Hamelin – but Papa (my grandfather) used to put his own twist on it. He’d describe ALL the rats in detail. Grizzly as anything and totally enthralling!
