Oh my goodness what a stunning and entirely engrossing book Lore of the Wild is! Full of the most beautiful, bright and brilliant illustrations – which seem to be a blend of folksy-Mexican-Romanian styles by the very talented Aitch – this non-fiction children’s book is a perfect gift for Christmas as it’s so colourful and easy to read.
With short stories based on European and Asian legends and myths, the book’s main draw for me was its everso accessible snippets of information. This info is mostly about animals, birds and insects and how different cultures have worshipped them, fed them, believed what they are, and how their behaviour affects humans, the wider environment and nature as a whole.
Claire has chosen so many superstitions, seasons and stories to write about from across the world that I found myself thinking quite deeply about the wisdoms within its pages. And I think you will too.
Sometimes there is so much information on the internet that it can be overwhelming, and this truly gorgeous book hands you a beautifully-curated wealth of educational, interesting and surprising facts you can dip in and out of that will keep your children busy and busy asking lots of questions for hours!
