Kate has a BA in English and Creative Writing and a Masters in English Literature. She lives in Saffron Walden with her husband, son and three cats. The cats are definitely the bosses. She is an animal lover and a vegetarian and has just got her licence to go mudlarking along the Thames in London.
Kate reads every moment she can. She loves MG and YA and anything creepy or historical as long as there isn’t too much romance. Her favourite novels include Northern Lights by Phillip Pullman, M R James’ Ghost Stories (they scared her so much that she didn’t dare get out of the bath), Jane Eyre, Tamsyn Murray’s Instructions for a Second Hand Heart, Huckleberry Finn, Frances Hardinge’s The Lie Tree, David Walliams …
Her debut novel, Gangster School, is being released by Piper Verlag, Germany, in October 2017. They will be publishing the follow up, The Brotherhood of Brimstone, in Spring 2018. She is currently writing the third in the series, The School for Scumbags. All three Gangster School novels should be available in English in 2018. Gangster School was shortlisted for three national prizes for children’s writing. She has just finished writing No Man’s Land, a YA novel about gender issues in the First World War.
