Karen Minto: Middle Grade Specialist

Karen MintoKaren Minto read English at King’s College, Cambridge, which was a bit of a shock after her comprehensive school in North Wales. She then became a barrister in London where she specialised in Employment and Discrimination Law for ten years. When she left that career to move to Somerset, raise her young family and write, she discovered that her true passion was writing for children. She was mentored by Bella Pearson and Imogen Cooper at the Golden Egg Academy for her first book.

Karen reads everything she can get her hands on, but in particular Middle Grade fiction. Her favourite books are Northern Lights, Oliver Twist, Midnight’s Children and Pride and Prejudice. Her all time favourite TV show is Buffy the Vampire Slayer, her two favourite films are Bladerunner and Serenity. Karen is learning to play the piano.

She is represented by Ben Illis of the BIA. Karen writes Middle Grade novels and poetry for children, and reads a lot of scripts for her husband’s film business.

Karen’s inaugural review for My Book Corner will appear on Friday 19th May 2017.
