Asphyxia’s distinctive style, bringing the loveable Martha to life, is back again for the third instalment of The Grimstones. Too excited!!
Martha still has the reputation within her family, for being … well … a little clumsy. Whirlwind sees her trying to shrug this off with all her courage.
Martha’s quest? To prove that she is mature enough to venture to the Queen’s Music Academy where she can develop her newly discovered musical talents. Unfortunately her beautiful new pet rabbits, Tillipilli and Ziphwort (how awesome are those names?!), don’t help matters … at least not in the beginning.
The diary elements that brought Books 1 (Hatched) and 2 (Mortimer Revealed) to life are still here; fabulous photographs, creative sketches and lively typography all set on wonderfully thick colour pages. With an accompanying village map of Gloomington book 3 branches out to include more delightfully quirky characters.
I love how Martha finds her feet in this book, she demonstrates determination and spirit combined with her loveable sensitivity towards others. Whirlwind is a wonderfully imaginative novel; heart warming and magical it is a great addition to The Grimstones series.
