I love you, Stick Insect, by Chris Naylor-Ballesteros, caught my attention straight away…
we didn’t have many pets when I was little, but we did have stick insects. In fact, we had hundreds of stick insects who at one point managed to escape. We were still finding them around the house months later! But that’s another story… This story is a wonderful love story between two ‘ahem’ stick insects.
Love is in the air for the stick insect in this story. However, butterfly has spotted something… ‘it’s a stick!’ But love is blind, and stick insect goes on to imagine all the wonderful things he and his ‘love’ could do together.
This is a great, funny story with superb illustrations. I especially love the two stick insects in a giant heart of candy floss!
It’s brilliant that straight away the reader, and the butterfly, are in on the joke but stick insect hasn’t ‘twigged’ yet (excuse the pun!). Children will love joining in with the butterfly in trying to tell stick insect ‘it’s a stick!’.
If you are looking for a fun, entertaining read, then I love you, Stick Insect is the one for you!
